Philippine Independence: Fruit of the Sacrifices of our Fallen Kababayan's

The God Almighty created humans and granted them with freedom. All of us are free to do anything but with the rightful consequences. All of our decisions in life are somehow considered as the backbone of our life. That is how much freedom matters, to all of us. And no one has the right to take that away against our will. During the early years, wars happened. The Philippines was colonized three times. Imagine how hard life was during that era, how much our countrymen suffered under the hands of foreign people who took our rights in our own land. That is why the day of our Independence is truly significant.

July 4, 1946 is the original date of the Philippines’ Independence Day. It is when the Filipino people finally got their long-desired independence from the United States of America. Since then, the country officially became the Republic of the Philippines or RP. However, in 1962, President Diosdado Macapagal moved Philippine Independence Day to June 12, commemorating the 1898 Filipino proclamation. That is why we celebrate the Independence Day annually on June 12. In my opinion, we should celebrate and honor both dates because they are both significant. Countless Filipino lives were sacrificed just to achieve what the country achieved during those days.

In conclusion, the Independence Day of the Philippines is and always should be significant. We must offer respect to not only the known national heroes but all of the Filipino soldiers and citizens who fought against the past colonial rules. They died with honor, they died to achieve the country’s independence. That is why we should bring awareness to today’s generation of Filipinos. We should always make time to offer our prayers to our fallen kababayans. We are not where we are today if it was not for them. We don’t have this so called “Kalayaan” if it was not for them. Henceforth, express thy gratitude during this glorious day.
