The Season of Lent: A Reminder of God's Sacrifices
Various activities, holidays, and seasons such as the Lenten
Season makes me more curious about Christianity. Don’t get me wrong, I do
somehow believe in the existence of God, however I just do not actively
participate in stuff like these. The things I have observed during the Lenten
Season are how devoted the Christians are to Jesus.
According to my research, prayers, fasting, and giving, or
charity, are the three main things people focus on during Lent. During Lent,
people focus their prayers on their need for God's forgiveness. It's also about
repenting and accepting God's mercy and love. Fasting, or giving up something,
is a common practice. The idea is that giving up a daily habit, such as eating
dessert or scrolling through TikTok, can serve as a reminder of Jesus'
sacrifice. More time spent connecting with God can also be substituted for that
time. Responding to God's grace, generosity, and love by giving money or doing
something good for others is one way to express gratitude. Some people, for
example, volunteer their time or donate money that would otherwise be used to
buy something.
It's important to keep in mind that doing these things will never earn or merit Jesus' sacrifice or a relationship with God. People will never be good enough for a perfect God because they are flawed. Only Jesus has the ability to save us from our own sins. All these acts of kindness is our duty to bring good out of the life that God had let us borrow. Treating everyone with respect is the bare minimum all of us should observe for the sake of God’s sacrifices.
