Quality Education Being Non-existent During Distance Learning
Ever
since the world got infected with this deadly virus, the economy of each and
every nation went downhill. Education was one of those that were extremely
affected because of this pandemic. Students were encouraged to continue their
classes online which is completely disadvantageous for some. It has already
been almost 2 years since the Philippines went lockdown, yet there has been no
improvement in terms of decreasing COVID-19 cases. In four days, it will be exactly
a year since our classes started, yet, I still haven't experienced the
"quality education" I am supposed to talk about in this composition.
I
am a student who can afford internet to help me with my studies. I am also a
part of the honor students, thus I rarely need help understanding my modules. I
also can attend google meetings without any interruptions sometimes. And I do
not have that much household duties since my mom handles most of it. But that
is not the point that I am trying to tell here. Not all students are as privileged
as me. Some do not have any money to afford internet because their families
barely earn enough for their daily expenses. Some are not as knowledgeable as
me, thus, they are having a hard time understanding the content of the modules.
Some can't join google meetings because they do not have a stable internet
connection, or they do not have a gadget to join the meeting. And some has
duties outside the class. They help their parents to work to afford food and
other important expenses. That is why, until now, I am really not a fan of the
country's Department of Education. When will they realize that online class is
only for the privileged?
In
conclusion, quality education was really not observed during this distance
learning. If this goes on for years, I honestly do not know what will happen to
the next generation of professionals in our country. The Government acts like education
is not that important, not knowing that it decides the future of our nation,
whether the country will continue to fall, or finally thrive towards prosperity and success.

It is true that online learning is for the "privileged". How so? Its due to the fact that not all students can afford gadgets, a lot also have unstable wifi connections and such. Quality education was not observed during this school year and even last year. I even worry for those whom had to do hands-on learning that only got to learn through their screens. What if they had to do the actual thing they had to do and not from their screens? They would most likely be confused and afraid to do s, since they may have not got the chance to do a hands-on about it while learning. Although, students are already being vaccinated which is a big relief and there's no doubt we'll be free from the said pandemic.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, the quality of education this time of pandemic is not even close to good, in my opinion. I bet most students have a hard time balancing their other responsibilities in the house and in school, I just hope we can have face-to-face classes soon.
ReplyDeleteSame here, fortunately I'm privileged enough to buy laptops, phones, and other things for this type of schooling, I'm also lucky I can mostly understand the lessons and my parents are able to hire tutors if I don't understand the lessons, but I put so much pressure on myself for the utmost perfection that it took a toll on my mental health, and the internet becomes so slow too and it's a pain to attend meetings.
ReplyDeleteThe quality of education indeed got lost ever since two years ago. Two years already yet the cycle is still the same. Wake up, answer modules, pass them, repeat. Although, one thing changed, and that is online discussion finally happening unlike last year. This is one step that is really beneficial to the teachers and students and I'm glad this got implemented. You always have a good point on your topics, Marvie. Keep up the good work!
